was just listening, and remembering my very first melancholy mix tape – on 8 track, no less, made just as the summer had ended and i had returned to junior high – not a particulalry happy time for me at all. anyway, the three songs i especially remember from this long-ago period of my history were the beatles’ ‘eleanor rigby’, a wonderfully sad song by roger whittaker (yes, roger whittaker!) called ‘i don’t believe in if anymore’ and, of course, ‘shades of gray.’ i can laugh now at the memory of that 13-or-so year-old kid singing along… ‘when the world and i were young, just yesterday…’ i find i can sing this with a little more credibility now, just turned 49, and i still find it one of the finest, saddest songs ever written. you’ve always had such excellent taste in poignant music! much love, always.

    • Haha I was about 16 yrs old singing that same line..I was surprised when I heard this song recently and it had held up so well. It’s truly beautiful and profound, and must have been our first lesson on non-dualism!
