With Friends Like These Who Needs Politicians?

The sensational video for David Ford’s 2005 debut single State of the Union, which shows him playing each instrument as it is introduced in the recording of the song, is no longer available on youtube, providing an excellent excuse for me to post the lyrics with the song here.

According to David Ford himself, when he introduced the song live at Austin City Limits in 2007, it is about “what might have been and what ended up being and about um, history and politics and religion and the world and science and music and business and greed and money and power, and uh, all those wonderful ideas that people had many hundreds of years ago that just didn’t work out so well in practice”

  1. My favorite line is, of course: “And they will talk an they will talk and they won’t FUCKING LISTEN!”

    …I’m not bitter, no 🙂

    • The whole song is so quoteable! I’m also partial to ‘Let the facts have no bearing on public relations’
